Understanding National and Regional Accreditation
by: Anonymous

A degree from Full Saail University is about as valuable as one from ITT Tech, or Le Cordon Bleu... LOL Seriously... No One Takes National Accreditation seriously... It is a joke, loosely monitored, and worthless. Hell, even DeVry got a regional accreditation... So a Full Sail degree is worth less than a DeVry degree... Imaging that. Further more, this school is FOR PROFIT, so they are fleecing young people who have no where else to turn. Avoid this hell hole and ALL for profit "educational institutions". Go to a real college, save yourself tens of thousands, and get a degree worth something.

The posts to ignore are always written by people who never include constructive information and never supply links to information that would back up their conclusions.

This person's argument is based on a belief that National Accreditation is useless and unrecognized by the US Department of Education.

That is incorrect. I am not suggesting that Full Sail is the right school for you but I want people to understand Accreditation.

Full Sail University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges, which is recognized by the US Department of Education as can be seen on which is the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Regional Accreditation is for predominantly academically oriented, non-profit institutions. Nationally accredited schools are predominantly for-profit and offer vocational, career or technical programs.

Nation accreditation is used for trade schools that teach programs such as the Aviation Technician Program at the Michigan Institute of Aviation And Technology.

They are accredited by by ACCSC, the same National Accreditation Agency that accredits Full Sail University.

That's correct. If you want to study the field of Aeronautics then you will be attending a school that may be Regionally Accredited but the Program is Nationally Accredited.

A great example of National and Regional accreditation working together can be found at Western Governors University.

This school is both Regionally and Nationally Accredited

"Western Governors University is Regionally Accredited By The Northwest Commission On Colleges And Universities. Western Governors University is Nationally Accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC)".

Some Programs within the University are by a National accreditation body specific to that discipline.

It is full of useful examples.
